nobody had reviewed this, so i had a listen. review now posted.

it's a superb recording, refreshing and re-invigorating some very over-exposed repertoire.

I agree entirely with Terence and recommend this disc very strongly. B

"For some this kind of separation is "unnatural", the equivalent of hi-fi anathema - would you ever hear the music this way in a concert hall? No, but your living room is not a concert hall, and never can be."

I am one to whom Tacet's recording practice amounts to "hi fi anathema"!

Sure, my listening room cannot BE a concert hall - but it can, and often does, provide the ILLUSION that I am in a concert hall. Further, I spent far less money obtaining that kind of sound than many spend on a new turntable to play their 50yr old recordings (sorry that last bit is a little off the thread!)

I continue to refuse to buy Tacet recordings because I regard the manner of their recording as, yes, very gimmicky.

I want to hear music like I would hear it in the concert hall. Terence, you say you have had bad experiences in concert halls. Sorry, that is no reason to avoid the good ones! I do avoid concert halls that do not satisfy, we have one right here in Albany NY. Fortunately just up the (Hudson) river is a great hall, the Troy Music Hall. I go to great lengths to attend concerts in the great halls in the US, the one in Boston and Carnegie in NY, even though it requires devoting an entire weekend to travel. Love my music, man!

Want my listening room to continue to provide the illusion of placing me in a good hall. That is what Hi Fi is all about - else what is your system showing fidelity toward? Sorry to disagree with you so vehemently, but I think Tacet's recording practice is a perversion of multi channel potential.

dear Bruce, i've found it's a very good way to better understand a work and think that Tacet's way with surround is just another type of realisation of M/C. Like you, I prefer the simulation of a concert hall, but have been won over by Tacet's alternative. And that's what it is, - an alternative, not a replacement or a perversion, - IMHO anyway. Best wishes, B

which TACET recordings have you listened to?

which are you basing your opinion on?

I base my opinion entirely on your forthright, honest, and excellent reviews! - and knowing what I want and don't want!

i respect that. what i WOULD like to happen sometime if you ever get the chance is for you just to give a track or two a listen, and see if, like brenda, you might be won over - that's what happened to me too.

you're clearly a great lover of music, and it's for that very reason i would be optimistic that you might well find much to admire in the TACET philosophy.

meanwhile, thanks for answering.
