Oh so anything by Poulenc is a warhorse?

Poulenc may not be a warhorse for some, but his music is for me! I would love a great recording of the Model Animals! I can't stop playing it!

Brahms' Piano Concerto #1 in a multi-channel DXD recording with someone like Marc Andre Hamlin at the piano. My wife and I heard a keep you on the edge of your seat performance of this with Helene Grimaud and the NHK symphony orchestra of Japan last Friday night in Symphony Hall....What an incredible performance. To bad she's tied up with DG because I am speculating that an Exton recording with these forces would be ideal!

New/recent SA-CD recordings from Boston Symphony Hall.

Brahms "Symphony no 3"

Most of this is available somewhere in hi-res remasters from analog or in original
hi-res digital.
All that would be needed would be to transfer it to sa-cd. (ok, a little authoring, but the remix/remaster is there, e.g. "the originals" "great recordings
of the century", etc., etc...)

Since allready the idea of transferring this to sa-cd instead of rbcd, is to much for our dear industry, i guess we have to forget it.

Well, I listened to the Munch/Boston Symphony Orchestra/Berlioz "Symphonie Fantastique" SACD and the sound quality is strange. The low frequency/bass drum especially. It just blooms. Anyone who doesn't like the low end of the Salonen/Disney Hall should compare to this. I know that Boston Symphony Hall sounds better. (As far as interpretation, instead of a solemn march to the scaffold, this sounds like an all out foot race.) The Vienna Philharmonic often records. Maybe something will come w/Levine in Boston.

Can't remember if anyone mentionned that one (maybe I should mention it in the piano concertos thread as well) : the complete Prokofiev piano concertos (not the third only).

I take that back, DXD is ok - allright?, but DSD is still sets the benchmark with such examples as the BIS Tchaikovsky Symphonies, several PentaTone, Harmonia Mundi, Telarc and most especially the wonderful Channel Classics Mahler 2nd recordings.

YES and if not all 5, at least the 2nd!

What about the Liszt piano concertos?

With BIS' latest release (Liszt: Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 - Arnaldo Cohen), it sounds like my wish was fulfilled. Thanks Bissie.

Now, these are not warhorses in any case but I bought recently a cd called "20th century concerti" (ASV), with such wonderful (some people will say weird) things as a tuba concerto by John Williams (the same that composed the score for Starwars and so many great movies), a harp concertino by Germaine Tailleferre (for those who don't know, she was a member of the "groupe des six" with fellow citizen Darius Milhaud), a saxophone concerto by French composer Henri Tomasi and a xylophone concertino by Japanese composer Toshiro Mayuzumi. The four pieces are really interesting and beautifully played and recorded.

Which brings me to my point: it would be great if we could have more releases of this type (i.e. "non commercial") in the sacd format. Like a number of people on this forum, I am getting tired of Mahler (although a great fan of Fisher's 2nd).

I hope this message will be read by Bissie, Pentaman and all the other guys in the industry but since I was already heard once, I am betting on my luck.

What's wrong with the two Skrowaczewski disks of Ravel on Mobile Fidelity (other than they are limited)?

I agree, that I would like to see more, but they are good, are they not?

I would like to see more versions of the full incidental music for Peer Gynt -- right now there only appears to be one (which is wonderful, but having all the drama between the incidental music is a bit much -- I usually just want to listen to the incidental music) (yes, I need to learn how to program my universal player).
