Ray,

I just want you to know that you are the only guy who can get me to rush out and buy his latest demo disc -- or any demo disc. Yes, I will soon have the complete set of IsoMike demo discs (and I feel a bit geeky).

PS: This has absolutely nothing to do with the crush I have on the cellist of FSQ.

That's interesting. Windsurfer, now you... I've gotta find me somebody in SACD world too!

Just kidding...

Actually, I found Anne Francis quite striking when the Fry Street Quartet performed here last year. Yep something quite wonderful about her! It is a boundless enthusiasm that transcends whatever you might think she looks like.

But awwwwwww,
Julien,

My posts regarding the quite exciting VIOLIN PLAYING of an artist that just happens to at the time be a quite attractive young woman had nothing to do with an old man being besotted from afar with a young artist, and very much to do with feeling an injustice at someone telling us that what I believe are that young violinists very finest qualities are actually deficits - I am referring to her ability to employ VERY fast vibrato during fast loud passages to convey excitement. That is not "out of control" and the reason I feel strongly is that the vibrato in question is not invariable like the vibrato of say, Anne Sophie Mutter at about that age. Mutter's vibrato was constant and irritating until about ten years ago when she finally woke up and got it under control. The violinist under discussion shows no such malady. She employs differing vibratos to meet what she regards are the needs of the notes as they are played to convey any given phrase. Give her unaccompanied Bach another listen!

'2007B', the latest IsoMike demo disc has arrived -- hey, do these guys know how to title a disc or what?

Well, Ray Kimber DOES know how to record music: "We began two hours before sunset, allowing us to avoid the hum of the lights and take advantage of the opportunity to shut down all cooling towers and chillers on campus...". Perfectionist that he is, he candidly admits that this massive effort to record The Blue Knights Drum Corps (tracks 1-5; it looks like a Cape Canaveral launch in the photos), didn't quite achieve absolute perfection: "In 4-channel, the microphone location proved too high and a bit too close. Listening to the 4-channel playback will position the perceived location of the far left and far right performers nearly behind you. Ah, next year.... 4' down and 4' back."

But Ray has no apologies for the next two tracks:

Fry Street Quartet playing early Beethoven Quartet Op.18/4.
-- "Full commercial release estimated Spring 2008."

Robert Silverman playing Mozart Piano Sonata KV310.
-- "Multi-disc set of all Mozart sonatas, commercial release estimated Winter 2008."

Start the drum-roll....

PS: If you have the Sonolumina disc, you'll need to buy this demo to get the 18 minute 28 second bonus track of the Sonolumina Ensemble playing Ingolf Dahl's Concerto a tre (sounds like Stravinsky... GOOD Stravinsky!).

When is Ray going to get the Fry Street folks together with Silverman to record some piano quintets, piano quartets maybe even some piano trios? Robert Silverman and members of the Fry Street Quartet

Boy would I like to see a good multi-channel SACD recording of Dohnanyi's Piano Quintet!

Just a quick comment - UK magazine Home Cinema Choice has a free THX demo disc this month (in the UK at least). There are a couple of tracks on the music section with credits for Mr Kimber and his IsoMike. They sound good too!

Just a quick qualification - all of the tracks are sonically excellent; not all of the orchestral contributions sound good - it's quite funny at times!
