Hi I am visiting Berlin next saturday for 6 days and have read previous response to similair question.
Are these still the top places..

Dussmann Kulturkaufhaus in Friedrichstrasse (near the train station) has the best selection of classical SACDs in Berlin. Their prices for labels such as Sony (single-layers) and Telarc are a bit steep, but European labels such as Linn, Channel, HM, Pentatone, and Hyperion are priced about the same as the online retailers.

L & P Classics (Knesebeckstrasse / Kurfürstendamm, in the City West) has a smaller selection than Dussmann, but usually has new releases marked down.

Zweitausendeins (Kantstrasse / Leibnizstrasse, about 3 blocks from L & P) is a catalogue-based retailer which changes its offerings six times a year. They don't have an extensive SACD selection (their current SACDs number about 30), but they do offer labels such as Linn and Hyperion for the lowest prices - 14.99 Euro

TonArt Klassik-CD (Deitmerstrasse / Düppelstrasse, in Steglitz) good selection, and prices about the same as at Dussmann

Saturn (Schlossstrasse, Steglitz, just around the corner from TonArt) Of the many Saturn/Media Markt outlets in Berlin, the Steglitz store has the best selection of SACDs.the wife will be with me.So is the information still up to date.

My only other major problem is how and where to watch the English Cup Final on TV saturday in Berlin ...Any suggestions. Neeed to limit the alcohol consumption..just a little...Dave

Hi Dave,
I was last in Berlin in December and I believe your list is up to date. I found L & P Classics quite expensive.

There is a very good Saturn at Alexanderplatz near Karstadt dept. store where your wife can browse while you spend a fortune on SACDs!

Dussmann's have many bargain RBCDs but their SACD selection was disappointing and hidden away. My wife likes the seats and relaxing atmosphere in Dussmann - a boon if you need more time!

Sorry, can't help with the football or alcohol question.

Most hotel bars or pubs that I have happened to wander into have been screening UK football (I think that it's cheaper than screening the Bundesliga) so you should be ok for this! Are you going to see the Berliners? If so, what in?

I was in Dussmann this past October and found many SACDs. They were just mixed in with the RBCDs on the rack.

Thanks for the replies .
some comments in reply...If you have watched the Bundesliga this year then you can understand why they are watching our premier league....after all we did have the Euro champions last year...and possibly this year again if another miracle occurs.????????..
Thanks for expanded list of sacd places and tips..As regards how many of these I will be able to visit when I take the wife shopping and suprise suprise they ALL turn out to be record/Cd shops I can only guess..If Liverpool win that cup then I can probably get away with a few more, assuming she doesnt sober up in time ...LOL....I am anticipating visits to shoe shops etc eventually.
Dont know which "Berliners" I will be seeing but the Phil dont seem to have a concert on that I can get to that week..though I do hope I can get into the building this visit ( failed last time)...Its a while since I saw my ex near neighbour Sir Simon...
I may add that the the internet tourist guide linked for Berlin has been by far the greatest tourist site I have ever seen.
PS Castor ? my wife browse and ME spend a fortune.....must be a typo on your input.......I can but Dream....

If you haven't done it before, be sure to check out the musical instrument museum that is part of the Philharmonie complex.

Look into what's playing at the Berlin State Opera.

How's this for convenience: Just up the street from Dussmann Kulturkaufhaus at Friedrichstr. 112a you'll find the Oscar Wilde pub (head toward Oranienburgstr., it's just before the intersection) where I'm sure they'll be showing the FA cup final rather than the Bundesliga (the game is being shown on german channel DSF, though the Oscar Wilde will probably have the UK satellite feed). Go Reds!

p.s. Zweitausendeins (near the corner of Kantstr. and Leibnizstr.) currently has Vol 2 and 3 of the Telemann Paris Quartets for 12,99 Euro each, and the Alia Vox Boccherini collection at 14,99 Euro, the lowest price I've seen for all three SACDs.
