And that is the point....do we really need new equipment every 10 yrs when japanese lifespan products sometimes surpasses our own longevity????

48 blu ray audio classical titles and one Tori Amos BD~A. Interesting.

A stellar line up.

Stellar line up? I just had a look ... most of it is just existing SA-CD titles re-issued on blu-ray. Some analog, some 44.1 kHz 24bit, ... just a smattering of what they have already re-issued in the SA-CD market ... but less.

The funny thing is ... when I commented that Universal et al had re-entered the SA-CD space by issuing titles like these ... not just a few ... but hundreds of them ... in the SA-CD market, ... none other than the rammie said .... nahhhhhhhhhh .... that's not what they want ... they want new titles. But all this is ... just some of the SA-CD titles ... maybe a few different titles ..., but overall ... much less.

And compared to the new (post-2011) Universal analog->DSD transfers, it will be worse quality too on blu-ray.

Nahhhhhhhhhhh, canonical. There ARE some new titles, as well and that is only in the classical genre. There will be some new "faces" in the pop arena.

And what are you comparing the BD~A discs to..........SHM~SACDs at almost double the price. With further discounting I'm sure the BD~A's will be approximately $20.

And if we're comparing the quality of SACD dedicated players to the Universal BD players, I'm sure the SACDs will win out but in time, as with most hardware, BD will catch up.

Universa's SHM~SACD program is either being discontinued or on hiatus so we'll have to content ourselves with the "crumbs" we are being presented with.

And yes, NEW titles never before on hi rez optical discs WOULD BE MOST WELCOMED and almost necessary if this excursion into BD~A will be a success. That almost goes without saying.

List of !¨@*?-A releases, that NEED inspection over the OSD:

DAVID BOWIE - stage (while DAVID-live can be switched between MLP formats freely)
JONI MITCHELL - both sides now
R.E.M. - Drive (while Automatic for the People can by switched)
SIMPLE MINDS: New Gold Dream (while One Upon a Time can be switched)
EAGLES - Hotel California
MILES DAVIS : Tutu
QUEEN - Night at the Opera
BRAZILLIAN JAZZ
GARY NUMAN - Anthology
FLEETWOOD MAC - Rumours
DOORS L.A: Woman (older release not the one from the box

etc.
etc.

It seems that majority of the discs you cannot easily handle without OSD. Only few ones you can do manage through your remote control not to mention that standards is a word, that authoring tems/persons do not heard in their lives.

MLP stereo should always be GROUP 2
while MLP multichannel can be GROUP 3

most of universal players have more functions incorporated within their remotes (coupling the front panel ones), but some High-End products do have functions available only on the front panel and the other ones only on their remotes.....

Some of the universal players has no option how to handle DSD so they offer internal coversion to PCM. Other machines are designed to output proper DSD signal (stereo or multichannel) and offers upconversion and filtering, too.

Because I have heard many hi-rez recording through various stereo or multichannel set-ups I prefer DSD over PCM (which is colder and a bit distracted). Immersion is what matters.

Nagraboy seems to have left us temporarily but if you want to see his equipment line-up refer to the new edition of Hi Fi News under Correspondence. He now has the dCS u-Clock linked to his Puccini so let's hope he'll tell us about the upgrade before too long?
