Yeah I was thinking that myself. I also wonder whether there was some issue with the multitrack tapes to Free Bird because when I last played the multichannel version, I'm sure the ending was different to the regular version. It's just started playing, so I'll find out in 10 minutes...

EDIT: I've no idea whether the ending of Free Bird is different, perhaps it simply sounds different because of the 5.1 mix. I've no idea and it's not important because Southern Surroundings sounds great and I'll take it as it is :)

Apparently they were playing the master tape for Free Bird to produce this disc, and found more of the song there. The version that had always been available was a result of a cut at the end, so they restored the rest of the song. If you want the song as you always knew it, you just need to end it a little early.

As a huge Skynyrd fan the ending of Freebird intrigues me. I have the DVD~A but not this Blu Ray. Just talking here, but I think I will pass on this disc as something about a greatest hits Skynyrd disc is not what I grew up on and I really enjoy the MOFI SACD's in stereo as that is how I have listened my whole life, track to track. I am a super fan of mch but this feels too much like a novelty to me. Now if the original LP's all came out in whatever disc format, mch, I would scoop them up in a second.

There is a new RBCD/DVD combo that I have pre ordered via Amazon called "One More For The Fans" and I have seen YouTube advertisements, trailers and looks real good, so my money is going for new rather than old.

Thanks for a good subject thread.

Ah thanks for clearing that up; I knew the mix of Free Bird on Southern Surroundings was more or less the same as the version I've known for many years, but now I know it's less, but more :)

Freebird has an ending?!?!
I thought it was a continuous song that went on forever.

Ha! Happy listening.

I have received and watched the brand new Blu Ray Video "One More For The Fans"
DTS-HD 5.1. Absolutely great, rears are ambient only. Camera work is perfect.
Highly Recommend.
