Why there aren't DVD Audio releases? "Now incorporating Blu-ray Audio"... The results are quite similar than Blu-ray Audio - mostly with surround sound, of course. I hope that those items will be there soon.

Historically, this site has only been interested in SACDs at a time when DVD-As were still being released.

The rationale for including Blu-rays is that many companies are moving from SACDs to BD-As.

You have a point, Luukas. There are some good DVD Audio records that have never been released on sacd or BR (as far as I know). For instance, Harnoncourts' magnificent Bach Matthew Passion and his Dvorak 9. Mostly Dvd Audio worth getting are rock albums. The fantastic Love compilation of Beatles songs is one album I would try to save if my house burnt down. Recent favourites are Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson, but you can get some of them on BR audio now.
But this is sacd net. The guys who run this community has made their decisions and we have to respect that.

Well. . . it used to be because of religious convictions of many denizens of this site, but now many of the most fervent believers have abandoned us. ;-)

OTOH, since Blu-ray audio and downloads kind of took over for DVD-Audio a few years ago, there isn't much being released on DVD-Audio these days, so the addition of DVD-Audio coverage would be more of a historical overview than a current topic of interest, at least IMHO.

The rationale as I've heard it stated is that this is really a site for live formats, and although a few stray DVD-Audio discs are released, the market has largely abandoned the format, both generally and for Blu-ray audio to the extent it's partially kept. Particularly since this site is funded by use of the product links to purchase new releases, and zeus has indicated that he'd prefer more focus on reviews of new titles and less use of the forum, DVD-Audio has been deemed to not meet this site's mission.

I'll be honest, as a collector-type, I find the omission of DVD-Audio annoying. Especially with the rise of the Oppo players a substantial portion of the membership here has the ability to play all three formats, and all three formats thus fit into the picture of what we choose to listen to and the conversations about what to buy. I likewise really find the ability to track my collection here very useful, and not being able to track the DVD-Audio side of my collection as well a bit irritating.

I would respectfully suggest that given that this site is no longer SACD-only, and has been looking to rebrand to suggest this, rebranding as a site for high-res recorded music would be more straightforward than "SACD and BD-Audio but not DVD-Audio." Given the utility of the submission feature and the fact that there aren't that many new releases, I'd think that the interested users here would be able to create an effective index of all DVD-Audio titles released with minimal fuss.

No to DVD-Audio releases. They don't belong here.

DVD Audio did not go extinct; it just evolved into Blu-ray audio. (Just as the dinosaur did not become extinct; it evolved into the barnyard chicken.)

I would say this is true.

So considering:

1) Some DVD-Audio titles continue to be released, some of them high profile rock recordings and can still be purchased at online vendors,

2) Many, maybe most, of us own a player which handles all formats.

3) Blu-Ray Music Discs is an evolution of DVD-A in many ways. Personally I don't think this is a long term viable format as many people looking for Blu-Ray will be disappointed by the lack of video,

4) The PCM/DSD debate has lost much of its drama (thank goodness),

5) And lastly, ubertrout has a quite on point argument that there is value to having this site for tracking all of ones high-rez discs.

I think the DVD-A data used to be out there in an organized format and someone probably has a copy of that site's list. It could easily be integrated into this site.

No thanks. If I want DVD-Audio, I can find it on other sites dedicated to that format. And no, Bluray isn't DVD-Audio enhanced.

For the curious, QQ has compiled a select list of DVD~As compiled since the year 2000. Although it is NO way comprehensive (Silverline and Classical DVD~As have been ommitted), it does list a copious selection of Pop/Rock/Jazz DVD~As:

http://www.quadraphonicquad.com/dvdalist.htm

Conspicuous omissions would include a copious amount of HDAD 192/24 and 96/24 popular/classical/soundtrack{Casino Royale, Glory and Close Encounters of the Third Kind} titles from Classic Records, Warner/Teldec DVD~A Classical titles, Universal/Philips/Decca 5.1 classics, EMI Classical titles, Surrounded by titles and Nimbus DVD~As as well as the occasional DVD~A title from more obscure labels (Wergo) and smaller independent labels.....as well as AIX Records, who, BTW, did some outstanding 96/24 titles of classical, bluegrass, jazz and popular DVD~As over the years. And lo and behold, Silverline did about a dozen plus DVD~A 5.1 Classical titles from the esteemed Vanguard Label which sound surprisingly spry! http://classicalcdreview.com/MCDVD24.html

And then there are the Japanese Import DVD~As (both stereo and multichannel) which have been released over the years including some fantastic 192/24 Jazz classics (stereo/mono) manufactured by JVC....and more recently, DVD~A 5.1s of Porcupine Tree's catalogue (which come with an HQ RBCD as well).

And while we're at it, HDTT (High Definition Tape Transfers) has released well over 200 titles from Open Reel Sources (some are also from 15 and 30ips masters, as well), in a variety of formats (including recently introduced DSD 256 downloads) which on my Meridian equipment sound simply amazing in DVD~V 96/24 and DVD~A 192/24). And HDTT is now releasing select titles in BD~A which are currently listed on SA~CD.net.

There's probably WELL over 1000 titles in DVD~A....and counting!
