I noticed some weeks ago that Naxos will release six new albums in their New Sibelius Series. It will be a part of the Sibelius Anniversary Year's celebration. The series will contains the following works:

- DISC 1: Overture in A minor, Twelth Night, Kuolema, Op. 44 (incidental music), King Christian II (incidental music)
- DISC 2: Overture in E major, JS145 (1891), Scene de ballet, JS163 (1891), Belsazzar's Feast, Op. 51 (incidental music), Cortège, JS 54, Menuetto, JS127, Wedding March, Processional, Op. 113/6
- DISC 3: Pelleas & Melisande, Op. 46 (incidental music), Musik zu einer Scene, Three Pieces, Op. 96, Morceau romantique sur un motif de Monsieur Jacob von Julin
- DISC 4: Jedermann (Everyman), Op. 83, Two Serious Melodies, Op. 77, In Memoriam, Op. 59
- DISC 5: Svanevit (Swanwhite), Ödlan (Lizard), Op. 8, Melodramas: The Lonely Ski Trail & The Countess' Portrait
- DISC 6: Scaramouche, Op. 71 (incidental music)

So, is it possible to have these discs on Blu-ray Audio? With surround sound of course. ClassicsToday reviewed the first disc with results 9/7.

A quick look at Naxos' page shows that this is released as an HD streaming set and also something you can download, so if it will be a bluray is anyone's guess, but it could be.

Would be even better if they made it as a one or two disc set, even if they charged a bit more for the privilege, but some of their releases on blu-ray, although very nice in terms of sound quality and recording, could have done with not mirroring the RBCD release packaging and all be bundled into one disc.

Naxos did this with a few discs like the Schubert and Rossini Overtures discs, doing two on one Blu-ray. They'd be well advised to do this more often.

I agree, although in the case of the Rossini Overtures, those two disks could also have been merge into one, as even at almost 2 hours running time, the discs are more than half empty which is a shame.

I think Naxos only releases BD-A discs with surround sound.

They also release many (stereo) hi-rez downloads which are not available on BD-A.

So maybe it depends on if the recordings were made in multichannel.

Well, it looks like that the Blu-ray Audio is quite unrealistic hope now. Naxos has decreased the Blu-ray Audio releases. I don't know the reason for that. But hopefully the Blu-ray Audio discs will be available after the last CD release (Scaramouche, Op. 71).

Here is the refreshing trailer of the whole series:

I really hope that Naxos will release the whole series on two Blu-ray Audio discs. The performances are outstanding and the recording quality is mostly wide, deep and clear. A must have collection for all Sibelians, definitely!

Luukas, according to Naxos they were 'suppose' to release two blu ray audio discs a month.

Probably due to lackluster sales and IMHO, poor choices, doubtful if Naxos has had much success in the BD~A arena.

I have quite a few of the NAXOS BD~As and except for a few, I am NOT impressed by the Sound Quality nor choice of repertoire.

For quality Classical BD~As, I highly recommend TACET and Sono Luminus.
