Totally unexpected is the complete film score to Brian DiPalma's motion picture Obsession. Long a favorite of mine, it is a pleasure to finally have Bernard Herrmann's Complete score on BD~A 5.1.

IMHO, one of his very finest and hauntingly beautiful scores and well worth seeking out!
Also includes video of the actual recording session in stereo and 5.1 and a 16 page booklet.

Alex, conductor Nic Raine recently re~recorded the complete 77 minute score of Maurice Jarre's Lawrence of Arabia for Silva Records (and Tadlow Music in the UK). Really wish that would be released on BD~A 5.1 as it is currently only on RBCD.

Still obsessed with films, Ralphie? ;-)
So, what's next... a haunting rendition of Carrie in 5.1? I can just imagine all the blood flying around.
KYAA!!!
Just kiddin'. The music on the YouTube video sounds great. There are quite a few soundtracks that work be fantastic in surround. Let's hope this is a sign of things to come.

Dispense with the platitudes, Brett and just order Obsession..........a 'benign' alternative to your current 'obsession' with HEAVY METAL....another passing phase of your 'Gemini" existence!

Very interesting Ralph. I looked on my Tidal account and I did not know, nor did I ever bother to care, that Bernard Herrmann is a superstar for many old movies that I like, Hitchcock, Sinbads, etc.
Looks like only Amazon UK at present. A little pricey.
Listening to Journey To The Center Of The Earth on Tidal now.
Is this one the only surround?

Or, vice versa. The BD~A also contains video footage of the actual performance similar to the LSO's recent excursion into releasing a hybrid SACD with a BD~A and including on some (but not all) complete video performances of the concert.
Pricing is also on par with single RBCD pricing (but you cannot go by AmazonUK's pricing which is considerably ABOVE list). List price on Obsession RBCD/BD~A Is £15.95 according to Tadlow Music's website.

The Obsession BD-A/CD set can be ordered from Intrada, a soundtrack collector clearinghouse based here in Northern California.
I can recommend their own label release of Bernard Herrmann's complete music for "North by Northwest", mastered from Tascam DA-88 transfers of the original three-track 35mm magnetic film recordings.
