On June 6, 2015, DGG/Universal will release (initially on RBCD) the Orchestral version of The Who's Quadrophenia with guest stars Billy Idol, Phil Daniels and Alfie Boe, tenor, singing the original Roger Daltrey vocal parts and Pete Townsend on electric guitar in an orchestral reimagining of Townsend's 1973 Rock Opera.

Robert Ziegler will conduct the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with the London Oriana Choir.

There will be a LIVE performance at the Royal Albert Hall on July 5, 2015.

No mention yet of a BD~A release but I would imagine it would be a natural for a multichannel release on Universal's DGG label.

Stay tuned.

I'm still waiting for the SACD of the orchestral version of "Tommy" that was released on the Ode label back in the 70's.

I have Quadrophenia in surround on bluRay and find it boring beyond measure and have never been able to listen to it completely through, same goes for the SACD of Bread's Greatest Hits. I fall asleep during Bread and Quadrophenia is replaced with something more interesting before it is completed. Yes, I had both of these albums when they were originally released.

I have both the SACD and DVD of Tommy and enjoy them and play them completely through.

Brett, I hear ya. But did love the film version of Quadrophenia versus the cartoony Ken Russell filmed version of Tommy.

Were you aware that Townsend was working on another Rock Opera tentatively entitled Lifehouse, a multimedia project.....which was rejected by fellow Who bandmates as being too convoluted causing Townsend to suffer a nervous breakdown at the time. Two singles from that failed attempt were later ported over to Who's Next (Baba O'Riley & Won't Get Fooled Again).

Agree that the ODE recording of Tommy should be released in hi res.

Perhaps the DGG Orchestral recording of Q will shed further light on Townsend's rock opera....a wait and see (hear) approach!

A current pic of Mr Idol https://hollywoodhatesme.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/idol.jpg

Doubtful he'd fit into those tight bell boy pants in 2015! He looks like actor Willem Dafoe...https://movingstudio.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/willem_dafoe_11531.jpg. Saw Billy Live in the late 80's or early 90's after his motocycle accident. Wasn't a good concert, at all....Rebel HELL!

Yes, Brett, you have competition...........5.1...

Better be on your BEST behavior, Tokyo Brett....alias Classicist Lutë http://cdn.all-that-is-interesting.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/watteau4.jpg

I still can't get that image of Ann Margret rolling around with all those beans & chocolate. What actors all go through for the sake of art. LOL!

And... Billy is still rocking. More power to him. Just as long as he doesn't start eating people...

Brett, I saw Shadow Of The Vampire at a private viewing in SUNY (State University of New York) Purchase some years ago with the director of the film, E. Elias Merhige, present. I had mixed feelings about the movie, at the time as I have seen the original Nosferatu with Max Schreck numerous times. In hindsight, Willem Dafoe's brilliant reimagining of the Schreck character is one for the ages.

Doubtful whether look~a~like William Idol has similar proclivities.......snackin' on carotid arteries!

And I, for one, am looking forward to the upcoming DGG Orchestral release of Quadrophenia on (hopefully) mch BD~A.

And with WHO classics like Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again, I can only imagine how wonderful Townsend's failed Rock Opera Lifehouse would've sounded had it been completed!

Fortunately, it seems that we have most of what was to be Lifehouse. But, you gotta wonder what else might have come from Townsend's pen. He was at the top of his game.

Anyway, I'd simply settle for a killer 5.1 mix of Who's Next? It would be awesome to hear We Won't Get Fooled Again in 5,1 with the synthesizer panning around the room and then Keith Moon crashing in.

As for panning around the room... It's gotten warm here and the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. So, I went clubbing last night with some friends. Lots of cool extended mixes of favorites were bringing the house down. They didn't played The Who. But the dance mix of 20th Century Boy was a hoot! I danced my a** off and drank too much. LOL!
