I thought I would start a different thread regarding CDJapan, not that they are the only seller for SA-CD.net users as I use them all but there reissue thing they got going on now is really affordable, shipping is fast to Calif, and you get points for purchase, I know others do the same.

One item that causes confusion and I hope CDJapan is listening. They are selling a lot of there discs in what are called Cardboard Sleeve (Mini LP). There is no rhyme or reason to this advertising. I received 14 discs yesterday all with that package wording, and the 14 discs where a combo of SHM SACD, Platinum SHM CD, SHM CD. 12 of the discs came in cardboard gate fold and two in the little Japanese boxes, a favorite by many. All of them where stunning reproductions of original LP's.

All of the packaging was superior, the discs all sound great, I was completely surprised by the sonic quality of the SHM CD.

Just hoping that they can change the wording to differentiate between the boxes and gate fold.

Regarding Mini LP, SHM CD, Beatles stereo reissue. Absolutely fantastic. Mini LP packaging is stunning (a slight difference in ink color compared to stereo Beatles Black Box Set). However the mini LP's covers are absolutely superior to the Black Box Set, plus you also get everything that is in the Stereo box set, of course one at a time.

In regards to SHM CD vs the RBCD of the black box set. I hate to say, but I give a nod to the SHM CD as I compared the White Album and Magical Mystery Tour.

My point, I am just really happy with CDJapan and I would have never known about them if it where not for SACD.net.

If this is not appropriate subject matter for SACD.net and it gets pulled I understand, just trying to help with confusion that comes up in other threads.

I will wholeheartedly echo Marpow's sentiments regarding the services of CDJapan.

I first placed an order with them in July of 2005 and have never looked back. Never has a package arrived damaged and I've also never had to replace a cracked RBCD case as is the "case" with other vendors.

They have a superb customer service and their prices have always been fair.

Long Live CDJapan and long may they prosper.

I don't like the points system on anything. If you're going to give me a discount then give me one. Amazon JP at least discounts items at certain times and that gives me a real discount. On top of that, I can send items to my son via the marketplace sellers and that's 10 times better than CDJapan can do. Besides that, I don't approve of what Stephen has decided to do re: Amazon JP.

I understand your rationale, FD, but was it AmazonJP's decision to no longer partner with SA~CD.net, the way I understood it, or Stephen's?

To be honest, cdjapan makes it very difficult, if well-nigh impossible, to cancel pre-ordered items. This is extremely annoying, and their communication when one tries to do so is spotty at best. What is so hard about allowing you to cancel directly, without having to send an email to them to cancel and then hope they respond?

Example: I tried to cancel four items from a recent order and heard nothing back from them - this was one week before the shipping date. when I followed up to confirm that they had cancelled my order, they told me,sorry, it was too late, the items had shipped already. I then told them that I had attempted to cancel the order on time, and would they at least cover the return shipping for those four items. They told me they would refund me 'points' only for the items, and that the return shipping was my responsibility. I couldn't believe it, and asked them to confirm this - and a day later (or two) they told me the same thing. It didn't matter that I have made multiple purchases from them over the years.

At least they pack things well. Whether it's a language problem or a customer service issue, I can't share the love with them.

I have NO history with AmazonJP but when I found out one of my items from CDJapan was canceled, I emailed them and the VERY next day they responded and allowed me to add a replacement item to my order.

Impeccable service department and extremely courteous and all my purchases are extremely well packaged and delivered.

Unlike SAM, I do NOT speak Japanese so perhaps knowing the language can be very helpful in communicating with Japanese vendors.

I think the the balance here is, it's a reciprocal arrangement whereby both retailer and consumer win. Even if in this case CD Japan seem to be giving us more than other retailers, let's not forget they do so because it's part of their 'business' model and not some attempt to make up for ruthless profiteering (think bank sector).

A friend recently got new windows installed and he's a tough customer to negotiate with and although he drove the price down to within an inch of it's life, there was still a profit to be made by the company; much smaller than they'd have liked, that's for sure. The company might have said look, we're doing you a favour at this super-low price, but the fact is, it's not a favour until they're losing money on a deal and the same goes with every transaction. Profit is profit and if CD Japan make money with their business model, than all that says is, it's a business model that's good at generating demand and profit. That's it. That said however, I regularly demand SACDs from them too :)

I don't order from them very often, but my transactions have always been fine. Their SAL shipping option takes about 3 weeks to get to the US, so if you are in a hurry, then choose a different option!
