Any thoughts on this album? As far as I'm concerned, pretty much anything opera on SACD is a good thing, so I'm excited about it, but I'm not familiar with the repertoire or original recital album. Thoughts?
Thanks! Matt

It's Janet Baker. That pretty much speaks for itself.

Absolutely. And pray to the SACD gods for Dame Janet's and Sir John's MAHLER...!

The Schubert comprised the very first Janet Baker LP I bought, but I don't remember the Mozart songs, so presumably it's a recompilation. It would be worth getting for D 920 alone; this is more often known as 'Serenade', rather than by its first line. It's the song for mezzo and chorus which most classical fans will recognise.
As this a volume 1, I wonder whether Pentaman can tell us what else is in store?

Obviously the SACD is a recompilation (like most of the RQR reissues), as it contains over 70 minutes of music
There are some inconsistencies between what is being announced in the Pentatone release plan on their website and now this release.
The release plan mentions this RQR release for March:
"RQR (Remastered Quadro Recording) Janet Baker Collection (Vol.1) Handel /Haydn / Gluck / Mozart / Schubert Aria's Janet Baker English Chamber Orchestra Raymond Leppard"
The SACD that is now released contains Mozart, Beethoven & Schubert material and does not have the "Volume 1" indication any more, at least not on the cover or on the website:

dear ramesh and claude,
we have indeed taken a selection from the available quad tapes. There is more. If this one sells well we will certainly follow-up with another one (with e.g.Gluck and Handel)
