This is an awesome set of sound recordings, and I look forward to many hours of good listening. However, I found two discs in the jacket, and they seem to be two identical blu-ray discs. Were two packaged by mistake, or is there some difference between them that escapes me?

According to Farao's site, this is available either as a 4xCD set or single BD. Sounds like you got a spare! Maybe the next guy's box is empty. I'll take it off your hands ...

This has the same performance of the 4th issued on Sony SACD some years ago. It is a very good performance of the original score version.

At first I thought I had this issue as a DVD-Audio disc (it's packaged in the old SACD rounded-corners plastic case), but alas it's the same Blu-ray Audio release of the original poster... minus the extra disc, of course. ;-)

I will have to give it a spin, now that it's been highly praised (though my recollection of Nagano's video Bruckner 8th is that it is on the brisk side, similar to his reading of Parsifal, another reverential piece which begs to be expansive throughout).

I have that SACD, yes, v good.

I recall he recorded the Sixth also, but with the Deutsche SO. Berlin - I wonder why that wasn't included here, despite the different orchestra?

Farao is a bit of a local venture, to what I understand, based in Munich, hence why, I think. They don't branch out to Berlin.

The B6 wasn't released on SACD, afaik. But there is also a B3, with same Deutsches SO, A very good recording of the 1st version. Bruckner: Symphony No. 3 - Nagano

I think Polarius is right about the reason why only the 4th is included.

That, but it also might have to do with licensing: the 4th was released by Sony, and the 3rd and 6th referred to earlier were on Harmonia Mundi.
