Discussion: Wagner: Gotterdämmerung - Janowski

I know this final title hasn't been released yet, but has anyone yet found any details on how to redeem the tokens from the first 9 releases in order to get the deluxe slipcase box that will house all 10 titles? (One can also opt to get Götterdämmerung for 50% of the list price.)

I have looked everywhere, including Pentatone's website, and cannot find any mention or follow-up on this subject.

I also wanted to add that sticking it out and buying all of these releases reminded me, metaphorically speaking, of an episode of Seinfeld. In it, Elaine Benes is trying to find her punch-card that, after eating 24 awful submarine sandwiches at a sub shop entitled her to become a "Submarine Captain" and get a free sub sandwich. (All right, this Janowski cycle has been pretty darned good all the way through, but the comparison remains!)

Looking forward to our site reviewers' comments.
So far I have seen 2 reviews on Amazon and both give Petra Lang (Brünnhilde)
a thumbs down.
I have a set ordered for delivery in the next week or so.

My copy of this arrived today, and I have the same question - how to redeem the coupons, especially since I am located in the US.

Interesting that a different tenor is used for Siegfried. I did think that Gould kind of crapped as Siegfried in Siegfried. Shades of Karajan's Ring.

Listening to Act I.......wow, neither Petra Lang nor Lance Ryan seem up to the challenge - Lang sounds hooty and overly mature while Ryan just doesn't have the voice. Interested in other impressions - maybe I am missing something.

I saw Lance Ryan as Siegfried in the Ring in 2010 at Bayreuth. He was an absolute sensation, everyone was ecstatic, raving about him during the intervals and after the performances. That was two+ years before this new Götterdämmerung, though, so maybe his voice has turned leathery. :-/

I have the Valencia/Mehta Ring with Lance Ryan. He sung Siegfried in a better vocal shape than in this Götterdämmerung. Here, in the duo with Brünnhilde, the uncertainty of pitch is distracting at the beginning. It becomes better after. But the real problem is that his voice lacks thickness and stability in the emission. His singing is often nasal and he produces sometimes very unpleasant tones. I regret Stephen Gould. Concerning Petra Lang, I would say she has very good moments and the immolation scene is convincing, but though she is vocally gifted and has very formidable top notes, the voice is sometimes too strained and unequal. It was not the case in the Walküre. On the other side, we have the remarkable conducting of Janowski…

Very nice summary, thanks.
