What are you smirking at, hiredfox? The ole boy is still with us!

This boy is indeed ole pronounced "olay." Additionally, any reports of my demise are premature, but Rammie is always looking for new business, I suppose.

As if we need another Don Quixote de la Mancha?

Actually, we already do: (Ex) Mayor Rob Ford of Toronto.

Olay!

It's "Rob" Ford, actually, and he's not ex yet.

Of course, all this has nothing to do with the thread's topic.

The "Don Juan" of Toronto?

As Cicero says, your comments have nothing to do with the topic of this thread (or any other for that matter). Probably induced by illicit drugs or sniffing formaldehyde.

And this admonition coming from "Multichannelless in San Francisco?"

And how I could ever confuse top designer Tom Ford with the mayor of Toronto is anyone's guess.

Perhaps an overdose of HCHO (Look it up, Euell)!

Back to the Topic @ Hand..........

Since I was a fan of Honeck's Exton Recording (DSD~recorded/mch) Ein Heldenleben coupled with Fletcher's Concerto for Clarinet/Orchestra and Verdi: La Forza del destino Overture, I will certainly add this RR recording to my list!

Yes, perhaps an overdose. But, back on topic, Geohominid's review panned the mch sound of the Exton recording of Honeck's Heldenleben, but, of course, this would not be of importance as to the RR Don Juan, etc. I too liked that Heldenleben (in glorious stereo, of course), but what do I know? Anyhow, hopefully this new SACD will be good and retire a CD or two. You really ought to quit sniffing the formaldehyde.

There is absolutely nothing amiss with the Honeck mch recording of Heldenleben. It remains a beautiful rendering and my rears captured the ambience of Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh quite admirably. I use separates unlike Geohominid who uses a receiver. But if you read his bio he does utilize the Marigo HD Damper which he raves about. And I normally always read and admire his reviews but have to disagree on the ambience issue.

Addenda: No HCHO sniffing here. I don't prepare the you know what.......I pay someone else to do it.

Totally agree with you rammiepie, in my humblest of humblest opinions it is the best Heldenleben on SACD certainly and probably on disc. It is also amongst my favourite works with 11 versions on SACD alone.

Ok, so I remain a two-channel man but the gear is quite decent. There is far more information on SACD than some people on here could possibly imagine and you are quite right to imply that performance and SQ are inter-twined.

One can buy a $10 pair of binoculars from WalMart and see Space but you'll need Keck 1 or 2 to see the Beauty of Space...

One at a time please!

I listen in stereo. This is not a great 2 channel recording as pertains to sound quality. There is a bright edge to the treble in some sections of the disc and the sound stage is smeared. Still the overall sound quality is very good just not outstanding. Excellent performance in my opinion.
