I have not managed to find any posting in this forum on this matter. SONY, apparently only via Tower jp, offers reprints of their first classical single layer SACDs.

Lo-res layer sucks - it always sucked although I understand that there were times it helped the music-machinery going. Now when they are releasing Blu-audio discs the need for lo-res is making no sense.

Here is the text from the page as translated by Google:

"SONY CLASSICAL SACD Single Layer reprint!

Category: campaign

11:21 the 26th April 2013: Post

SONY CLASSICAL SACD Single Layer series played a role in the spread SACD launched at that time. It was expected to produce almost finished now, it is pushed to the voice of the customer, and it was with reproduction in limited quantities this time.

CD of this place can not be played on an ordinary CD player. Please be forewarned.

It was SONY CLASSICAL SACD Single Layer series originally SONY has released the SACD standard, to have been released for the spread. Became a hot topic of quality improvement extraordinary as compared to CD so far, I was able to play a role in the SACD standard spread. However, (CD standard types of hear both the SACD and normal CD) SACD-HYBRID plays a central role in the spread of standard, single layer went into the production end as if completed its role. But in recent years, much attention was paid again in single layer from improvement of regeneration system, from the voice of the customer that "the SACD Single Layer of SONY" this time, there is in limited quantities, but it has decided to go out into the world again! Please enjoy the ultra-high-quality sound of SACD only."

Of course but it wouldn't prevent me from buying them...just don't play the cd layer.

I was hoping to see Murray Perahia single layer SACD’s of Bach and Chopin, oh well.

Good news...the discs that were in MCH will continue to be in MCH, namely Bartok: Concerto for Orchestra, Miraculous Mandarin - Boulez, Boulez Conducts Ravel, and Mendelssohn, Shostakovich: Violin Concertos - Hilary Hahn

Less good news is that this isn't the complete collection of early Sony SACDs. I don't see Brahms/Stravinsky: Violin Concertos - Hilary Hahn or Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 "Eroica", Overtures - Szell, both of which have gotten fairly expensive.

As for the hybrid issue...not all these discs are simple to port. The Hahn disc is dual layer, for instance, while the Ormandy Requiem is 82 minutes long. This seems to be a straight reprint set because there's more demand in the market.
