Today, it was announced that Beethoven: String Trios Op. 9 - Trio Zimmermann won the Chamber award, Bruckner: Symphony No. 9 - Rattle won the Orchestral award & Wagner: Parsifal - Janowski won the Technical Excellence award.

Congrats to all involved with those sets!

Finally, the British music press bestows some measure of recognition upon Simon Rattle.

It was my impression that 'Gramophone' magazine always seemed quite fair to Herr Kozena, neither overpraising or under praising his interpretations.

Probably more pertinent is that EMI, in light of its recent dismemberment/disembowelling nurtured Rattle from a young age, taking a long term view of his potential which seems now to be a quaint vestige from a bygone era, at least in terms of the self-styled classical record 'majors.' I wonder how many of his recordings of 20th century music paid off the recording costs?

Nowadays it's the other labels, such as PentaTone, Channel, BIS, Naxos which have long term and fruitful relationships with artists. Harmonia Mundi are intensively recording Paul Lewis in the repertoire which his teacher, Brendel, was given with the current light bulb and medical equipment manufacturer Philips.

Nice to see one of my recommended recordings: Beethoven: String Trios Op. 9 Trio Zimmermann honored. Great minds think alike, well in their case anyway, not mine.

I know it's probably unfair but I spend a lot of the time thinking that G is a little too favourable to many British artists (at least, they are a lot more favourable than they appear to be to non-British artists; for a start they tend to provide copious coverage!)

But you are right about the "minors"; these are (with pitifully few exceptions) the only companies to foster long-term, in-depth relationships with their artists today.

I have noted same and put it down to provincial bias unintended or not, of which the Brits are not alone. Who has not noted the abundance of glowing reviews of UK audio products in top audio publications? There's always Six Moons the cornucopia of reviewers from diverse lands, yet Six Moons focus is hardware and their music reviews are few and far between with new music reviews currently as scarce as Sam(TG)Tellig reviews in Stereo(JA)phile.

Rest assured we Brits are not taken in by their claptrap. For sure, there are still a few diehard greybeards over here for whom Quad will be always a "top hi-fi" brand but most serious audiophiles look West or East for their technology advances.
