Performance: Sonics:
This is a very solid sacd from Mofi and a really enjoyable live album. Its interesting to note that all the cuts on this album are prior to his bresakthrough Stranger album. The liner notes explain why. Yes this sacd comes with good notes.
This album is fatihfully recorded and a pleasure to listen to. There are a few occasions where some of the instrumentation is not captured as well as I might have liked but all in all this sacd sounds darn good.
For starters there is a nice energy level and honesty going on with the performances. Joel was having sa good time here and it really shows. His band is spot on as well.
Soundwise I am well impressed. Joels voice and piano are rendered realistically with good capture to his unique tonal range and vocal form. Low end and drums are for the most part very good too.
There are two cuts from this album that made it into Joels famous greatest hits cd. Say goodbye to Hollywood and She's got a way. If you are used to the cd remastering be in for a surprise. Give these two tracks a chance on this sacd. Just crank the volume and be stunned by how much better the Dsd resolution is. The two cuts are given new life and meaning. Its hard to write a review of a live album unless you are familiar with it. A lot of live recordings from the rock era leave alot to be desired. But this disc is one of the good ones.
