Performance: Sonics (S): |
| Delighted to add my recommendation to those of the previous reviewers, this is a very enjoyable record indeed. A compilation from her three albums, it's real mix of styles, from outright pop, to jazzy, to traditional folk - the lady is nothing if not versatile. I too enjoyed "Spanish Harlem" but I wouldn't have rated it the best on the album, "Underground" is more rhythmically exciting but my outright favourite is "Fhear a Bhata" which although there are no song notes with the album, I understand is a traditional Scottish song from the Isle of Lewis with the verses in English but the lilting chorus left in Gaelic. Haunting melody, crystalline vocals. Stereo tracks only reviewed, sound quality excellent, voice well presented, quite forward on the sparsely instrumented traditional tracks, all instruments clearly defined. Well worth having.
