M. Davis tp & syn, B. Berg ss & ts, J. Scofield g, J. McLaughlin g, R. Irving III syn, D. Jones eb, A. Foster ds, V. Wilburn Jr. ds, S. Thornton perc, Sony 1985. I think every jazz enthusiast will know this record of Davis` electric jazz-pop period in the 80`s. It isn`t the best Davis ever made, but it was hip then and made jazz popular, what purists disliked much. Anyway, Miles was ahead the jazz scene once again with that sound he created. Who will listen to Cindy Lauper`s original version of Time After Time nowadays (although it`s a beautiful song)? Listening to Davis` interpretation is a pleasure still. And big arenas were crowded when Davis toured the world in the 80`s. Who else did that in jazz history? It was jazz-pop-rock fusion of the highest standard. Unfortunately the sound of the recording sharp and edgy, making it impossible to turn up the volume as much as it should be for listening to that music.
