Performance:  Sonics:
A tribute to the late Dusty Springfield, the instrumentation is pared back to showcase the interpretations of these classics by Shelby Lynne. The feel is intimate and "live." The vocals are wonderful, which was a pleasant surprise since I don't know anything about Lynne as an artist. The band consists of mostly acoustic guitar(s), piano and drums/percussion. The sound spectrum is well balanced, with none too weak or too strong as to be overpowering (I don't like when bass or the high end is over emphasized). Very natural sounding. Vocals are beautifully rendered.

A bottle of red would make an excellent listener contribution. Your inclinations may vary.

Performance:  Sonics:
I played the original RBCD to death. I thought nobody could top Dusty but her performance comes close. The CD is raw from analogue and had a few obvious overload distortions. Probably due to overloading of the mic. Despite that the CD sounds very lively with lots of PRat.

I read about the Analogue Productions reissue and decided to buy it for a second time since apparently it was remastered by Doug Sax.

This version is much cleaner and I could no longer notice the overloading mentioned above. But somehow, I cannot feel the raw mojo of the red book CD.

I guess if you are buying this music for the first time it is worth it, otherwise stick with your Red Book CD.
