Performance: Sonics (S): |
| ...this is my first review on this great site so bear with me please...i saw a brief post on another site regarding the greatness of this disc from both a performance standpoint and a sonics' standpoint.as one who has over 200 sacd's...my system is 2-channel only....and as one who loves classical music, this was a disc i had to buy.my love of tchaikovsky is exceeded only by my love of rachmaninoff.i have 3 other 'nutcrackers'but this performance by the cincinnati pops under erich kunzel is just superb... from a performance standpoint the orchestra, under kunzel, is,as they say in england,'spot-on'.the tempo is maintained throughout and the dynamic swings are breathtaking.the disc is a 'pure dsd'.the hall ambience is great and easily appreciated. sonically the disc has become my favorite. the instrumental imaging is perfect.the soundstage is very wide but is not washed out at the edges and keeps its' pin-point focus all the way out to that edge with whichever instrument is being played.this should become a favorite demo disc for many.you certainly get your moneys'worth, also,as there is 73:12 of playing time.i can't recommend this disc enough.as it is almost the holiday season this would be a great gift for the other audiophile addicts you know...
