Performance: Sonics: |
| WOW. This is Rossini, Auber and Berlioz done right. Just listen to Overture to La scala di seta (The Silken Ladder) and Overture to L'italiana in Algeri (The Italian Girl in Algiers). Szell is in top form and the performance of the Cleveland Orchestra is, as it always was with Szell, outstanding. Szell captures the emotional content of Rossini as few are capable. The sound of this recording on SACD is exactly what SACD is about, full spectrum, wide sound stage, and micro dynamic contrasts that bring out the essence of the composition and the emotion of the music. Five stars!
