This 1954 mono recording deserves its place in the collection of any lover of jazz vocals, although this one doesn't quite measure up to the audio standards of most audiophiles. The sound is a little thin compared to my old LP reissue purchased in the seventies, and perhaps a little less three-dimensional. I suspect this is due in large part to the compression modern engineers are wont to inflict upon everything they touch.

sbg is spot on with his description of this SA-CD. The sound is somewhat thin and it just sounds like a 1954 mono recording, old. But I would not discourage anyone from buying this due to our two star ratings. Though not of audiophile standard I still find it pleasant to listen to. Despite the hardening treble the sound has a clarity to it and an atmospheric quality that I find appealing. I do not have this disc on vinyl, but when I listen to my Columbia LP of 'In Hi-Fi' the sound is warmer and her voice has more trimbre. This LP version is no sonic gem either. The Pablo box set sounds more like it but that was recorded between 1978-1982.

Why anyone would buy a mono SACD is beyond me. Isn't that what audio tapes are for?

Mono, but still track 2 is enough to bring many people to tears.
I've owned a lot of Sassy on CD but this SACD blows away previous.
Now, there is some hiss but the flat sound suits the 1954 Jazz 'feel' IMO.
I really love the limited sonics on this as being unmanipulated and clean. That's just me.
Am imperfect SACD but one of the favorites, and most played, that I own.
