LAS VEGAS (CES, Booth #N109), Jan. 10, 2003 - Sony Music Entertainment (SME) today announced it will be releasing a new series of classic albums by Columbia Records artist Bob Dylan on hybrid Super Audio CD (SACD) this Fall. The announcement was made by Jeff Jones, Senior Vice President, Legacy Recordings during a special SACD reception sponsored
"To show off the new system, Marantz Brand Ambassador Ken Ishiwata looked long and hard at the Mordaunt-Short speaker range the company distributes in Europe, and came up with an amazing 'stacked pair' configuration of the Performance 6 loudspeakers, with one of the hi-tech floorstanders inverted above the other in a custom-built frame.

I've already posted my tremendous enthusiasm for the new SACD of Bernstein's "Mass," but I ordered three other SACD's from ArkivMusic at the time, and would like to comment on them as well.
"Song of Songs" on Harmonia Mundi, by the English choral group, Stile Antico, is just plain gorgeous. Gorgeous singing; gorgeous music; gorgeous sonics.
Don't say that, actually, Sorabji does have his followers, as does Fredrik Ullén. The first CD sold quite well, considering the repertoire, and keeps selling (not enough to break even yet, but much better than I thought). I believe the second CD will help the previous one. And - we'll have the market to ourselves - I honestly don't think there is a
I can't really dispute anything you say. It's all so frustrating. I have just returned from visiting the Royal Opera House and looking at the list of performances on Blu Ray - mostly with DTS HD and 24 Bit PCM stereo - I'm inclined to jump in and enjoy those while I wait for markets and people to sort themselves out. Apologies for my unsubtle
"The Royal SQ" aka [t=4059] is a favourite disc, especially the Bacewicz. [t=4060] is interesting stuff, sits well with Chopin and Liszt. --And as Peter said, ordering from BeArTon is a pleasure.
I was really looking forward to this SACD, ordered via Ebay and it finally arrived today, new & sealed:

I have enjoyed many, but not all of your SACD releases, both musically and as recordings , but I find it quite disturbing that you did take that retrograde step you obviously did, for economic reasons, when you abandoned true hi-rez recording

If you want that degree of realism may I suggest you go to a concert? Recordings can only ever be an approximation of the real thing and the success of the home listening experience will always be determined by compromises of one kind or another.

The BBC has announced the schedule for the 2009 Proms season. I see BFO/Fischer are due to appear at the Royal Albert Hall on Tues 18 Aug 2009. The US mail is not quite as economical as UK's Royal Post but triple the price of the SACD is unbelievable! I order a lot from the UK and the shipping charges from the UK to US are usually less

I then called the BSO's number in

My perspective is 2-channel SACD as well, and I like what I like as anyone else would.
I was fortunate to attend SFO/Tilson-Thomas Concerts of Mahler 3 and 9 at Davies Hall when they were being recorded. Their Mahler 9 live was wonderful to my ears although I haven't heard the recording. I own the Chailly Royal Concertgebow SACD of Mahler 9 and am
If one has the applause on a separate track immediately after the piece in question then one can choose to listen to it or not: this surely pleases everybody. If one listens to the piece with applause one should notice no break.
A few, very few discs have this separate track like, Abbado's Mahler 6 and the recent Strauss Alpine from Jansons. I

Here a lot of statements are (also) presented as facts, that are nothing more than opinions. Raffles obviously prefers stereo listening to surround listening, but I for certainly do not agree with his reasoning behind that. Still he can prefer what he wants, like anybody else.
His point about the musicians is totally contrary to my own experience
Hello, I just purchased the DENON AVR-2808CI over the weekend ($468! at many websites) and the manual claims it supports SACD DSD over the HDMI. It's sounds like a very interesting disc. I have read the reviews of this disc (and others) on this forum before I posted this thread, but I always find it interesting to hear other peoples views and thoughts - however subjective they may be. I have a Naxos DVD-A - Vivaldi's The Four Seasons - which was recorded in a
More touching news, I'm afraid.
Further and more careful reading between great dollops of lovely Vaughan Williams live from the Royal Albert Hall this evening, I notice the Editor in choosing Kreizberg's Dvorak 6 as one his monthly choices tells me "I didn't listen to this on SACD equipment, but even with standard kit the sound is
The Norrington recording has much more bass, as it is recorded with closer microphone set-ups. It was done, per the liner notes in a concert hall in Stuttgart. At Westminster Cathedral, we have the kind of space for which this work was conceived. This is one work where the building is as important as the music played in it. Berlios knew that, and

My opinion of the Shostakovich Jazz Suites is more positive. While I don't own those works on SACD, I often return to my rbcd recording with Ricardo Chailly and an ensemble from the Royal Concertgebow of Amsterdam. The playing and acoustics are so good, I don't feel the need to buy a new SACD recording. If you like the Jazz Suites, check out
I have always been a big Debussy fan. I am interested in acquiring the BSO/Munch disc on RCA Living Stereo, but I have never been a fan of the Boston sound that much. What I would love to see released on Pentatone is the recordings of Bernard Haitink with the Royal Concertgebuow Orchestra. I have the Philips Duo and would love to see these

It's always the unknown that gets you in conversations like these.
If you've never heard a speaker like B & O or something in that area, you might well think that a subwoofer is essential for "good" bass response. Likewise, if you haven't listened to much live classical music, you might have a narrow idea of what "good" bass actually is. There's
Since you like the light textured violin, flute, lute, etc... try Jenine Jensen's Four Seasons by Vivaldi. Instrumentation is one to a part giving it a much lighter and more transparent sound.

Dear Tommy,
the covers are important to me, too, and, whereas I respect opinions different to mine regarding the success we may have, I cannot really abide those utterances claiming to state an objective truth to a matter of taste.

As I own all of these recordings I can give you my personal impression.

Second place would go to Mackerras with the Royal Philharmonic. Although I am aware that this is not a genuine multi-channel
