Universal Music - Japan - June 23rd SACD-SHM Releases
Post by rammiepie April 26, 2010 (5 of 5)
As I reported earler, CDBang had announced two more upcoming SHM~SACDs, namely, Diana Krall "Live in Rio" and Lee Ritenour's "Six string theory," but after visiting various websites, they are indeed SHM-CDs as their low pricing suggests. Oh, well......

Based on the price and considering that it's supposedly a SHM-SACD and is a Universal Product I would not hold my breath that it's an SACD. The pricing suggests a SHM-RBCD. But I could be wrong as CD Bang is also showing Diana Krall "Live in Rio" and Lee Ritenour "Six String Theory" as upcoming SHM~SACDs for $30.64. Hmmmmm!

Hiya Rammie, You are a really nice guy, who is very positive. That's so great to see/read. I hope that you're correct, but the evidence and truth points in the opposite direction. The sustainability, and value of any format is judged exclusively on sales, which is the ONLY THING that drives availability. (There's a very famous and funny story

If you're going to compare Diana Krall (or Mrs. Elvis Costello) to past legends such as Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughn, there is NO comparison but then again, neither Ella nor Sarah played piano and fronted a band. But her hi~rez excursions whether SACD or DVD-A certainly surpass their RBCD equivalents, IMO, by a significant margin. Chesky is hit

Which artist or album would YOU like to see released on SA-CD?

Interesting choices, but I would add Restoration of the Telarc program remastered through the Grimm Audio Converter and all of Cat Steven's early A&M recordings (Mona Bone Jakon and Tea for the Tillerman were demo material in their day) and a few of my own choices: Barbra Streisand and Diana Krall: Live at the Blue Note as a blu-ray/sacd

Come on Bruce, this means nothing. You could could say that about any artist... sounds like the fortune teller who starts with such sentences as "you have quite a personality...", waits for an impressed reaction and starts guessing from what people reply. Or the hi-fi reviewer that writes: "I could feel Diana Krall breathing in my room. She was

Has SONY [US] Abandoned SACD?
Post by rammiepie September 8, 2009 (1 of 23)
With their victory over the HD-DVD format (old news, to be sure), It seems that Sony US has utterly abandoned the format which they initiated some ten years ago. I have a sneaking suspicion that they will begin releasing music in the blu-ray format [audio, only] and if they do would they conceivably include an SACD a la 2L Products [akin to the

Hi, I am new to the SA-CD community and just saying hi to you all. I have a question that maybe someone in here can answer??? I have never seen this on a sacd and am wondering
SACD AND Blu Ray release of same album - a view...
Post by mx2005 August 14, 2009 (39 of 67)
A lot of welcome common sense in this post -- The main problem I can see with blu-ray becoming the home of high quality surround music as it will effectively lock out the stereo fans (I am sure DVD-A was a turn off for them in the same way blu-ray must be as a video format.) There are very very few multichannel SACDs that don't have an exceedingly

Spyro Gyra New Recording Will Not Appear On SACD
Post by jakeroux April 24, 2009 (6 of 11)
This ups the count to three this year of pop or pop-ish artists who we could previously count on to provide new releases in SACD, whose latest release did not include that format (SG, Diana Krall and Depeche Mode). You could probably throw Patricia Barber into that category as well, although her latest non-SACD release was in 2008. I'm anxious to

I agree with Monotone that this album grows on you. Somehow I knew I was going to like Temptation before I heard it. I became aquainted with Ms. Kralls name throught the Klipsh forum. It seemed like every other song or album mentioned was Diana Krall so I took a chance without having read any reviews. Again it took some effort on my part to let

tommwi's line above is the only thing that matters, really. We often talk too much about technique and too little about how we feel about the music. Where I live it's difficult to find dedicated music players that play surround discs; they're usually stereo only. Nothing wrong with stereo, but with some music programmes the multi channel mix is an

I left the industry 7 months ago (I was a Tower Records manager), but before I left I was told by someone within Universal (admittedly, not very high up the food-chain) that they would continue to sell off the stock they had but would not repress. That to me seemed to explain why pop titles (Elton John, Diana Krall, etc.) have tended to

This SACD was favorably reviewed in Stereophile, April 2007, and received "Recording of the Month" honors. Apparently, from a sticker on the shrink-wrap, it was also favorably reviewed in Business Week. The music is soft jazz, with Sutton singing covers of songs on the theme of happiness, somewhat in the style of, say, Diana Krall. Unlike Krall,

Here's my (simplistic) take on the question of DTS versus SACD Surround, based on my experience with both systems. DTS is indeed very fine when well implemented, but the difference between it and SACD are clear even on modest equipment. [Warning: This is not scientific though - I have not been able to compare the same album in DTS and SACD.] Good

Today's review of a DK album, 'Girl…' concludes, 'Listening to this album is like making love to a fridged woman'. Possibly the writer meant 'frigid', but the line as it stands is far more creative! The last word could be more inclusivist though, with 'person' or 'humanoid'. Hopefully there is room in the same fridge-freezer for one of those Sony

I am rooting for AVALON or Ray Charles to win this Grammy. Avalon is great for all the obvious reasons, although, I don't think that if Avalon won, that it would amount to a great amount of marketing push for the SACD format. I thoroughly enjoy the Ray Charles disk, and while it's a very timely release what with it being a posthumous release

As a big fan of Clint Eastwood I was very excited to hear the album's last track "Why should I care" becaus he was involved in writing this song. But sadly, the album ends with track #12. There simply is no track 13. Is it missing? A mastering mistake or a hidden track. It's so sad
