Masur is a Beethoven conductor of real stature and this boxed set is a really splendid Beethoven cycle, with wonderful performances of all the symphonies and exremely good orchestral playing. What a splendid sound Slatkin gets from this fabulous orchestra! And what glorious playing! Only Stokowski had managed to play Bach transcriptions in such a magical way. If there was ever a perfect Mahler Ninth this is definitively it. The sound is perfect, the Mch mix is realistic and wonderfully well balanced, the orchestra play like Angels and Chailly give the performance of his life. Run out and buy this disc!

This is another fabulous transfer of the original Living Stereo master tapes, and the sound quality is quite sensational.
