I find this to be the second least enthralling of the Elton John SACD's from a Multi-channel sound quality and presentation point of view. Peachtree Road grabs that "distinction" but more of that when I come to review it later.

While not the last word in sound quality I've come to expect from the very best Multi-channel SACD's I've heard, this is the best sounding Clapton SACD by a country mile.
It helps that it's a brilliant record, whereas "Slowhand" is spotty content wise and "Layla" too inconsistent in it's sound ... more |

What was already for me an excellent recording, both in terms of content and sound quality, on LP and both versions on CD I owned (the original DJM rbcd and Gus Dudgeons' 1995 Classic Years Series Remaster both had good things going for them while presenting the material quite differently from each ... more |

I loved this album from the very moment I first played it, back on rbcd. Even then, on just a little boombox, it stood out as easily one of the best albums not only of that year for me, but that I had ever heard!

If it gives any sense of perspective to anyone reading this, I have played Goldfrapp's "Felt Mountain" and "Black Cherry" albums to absolute death over the years.
