I have subscribed to the Analogue Productions Verve SACD reissue series. This is the first one I am reviewing. The title is apt! Blues by a jazz saxophone master, in excellent form! Great sounding sacd, one of the best blues sacds I've heard. The mix is clean, good stereo separation with the bass on one side, bass drum on the other, other rhythm and horns panned out from center, with King's guitar and vocal in the middle. Hello, got this one awhile ago, listened casually a few times, gave it a good listen this morning. Recording has a lot of room sound, the church setting is quite resonant. Instruments are well defined in the sound stage, slight muddiness in the low frequencies due to the room acoustic. Overall ... more |

Hello, felt this disk deserved more than a short review. First of all I disagree with the "bad, pulpy sound" assessment. Not sure what is meant by pulpy sound.
