I like acoustic music. There is something about the spareness of it that allows the delicate harmonics of each instrument to come through - if recorded right. This DSD disc is recorded right. The clarity of individual notes is what I notice most about the recording. Not only does each section have its own physical space, but each instrument and each note are distinct. I found this to be a well-recorded and good performance. The surround mix is a bit unusual in that the rear channels, which are used for room ambience, are not very loud at all, but for all that, the sound is very full, and even keeps my subwoofer busy.

This is one very nice sounding SACD. It's a little dry perhaps, but I like it. As the title suggests it's a live recording, recorded at the Long Beach , Birdland West club in 1988.
