Though I agree that these performances are a little laid back for me that is not a totally bad thing. All great composers can tolerate different methods of interpretation. Well, this was my first Chesky SACD, and I was not sure what to expect. This is a compilation of show tunes played by an extremely competent orchestra. There is plenty of fun music here and it is obvious that the orchestra is enjoying themselves.

At first I really dug the multichannel mix and its aural effects, but after repeated listenings I realized I was solely mesmerised by hearing one of my favorite Stravinsky pieces in surround sound. This is a remarkable recording of some Ralph Vaughan Williams's best works. The musician's performance is definitely outstanding, reflecting a deep respect and understanding of RVW's music.
