This disc should be included with every SACD player. The opening tape loops of "Money" are worth the price of admission, but from beginning to end, this is what surround sound was made for. Three years after his first solo album, and what a difference! This is the Gabriel we have come to appreciate: more adventurous, more complex and generally less symphonic rock. This is the first Peter Gabriel album, made almost directly after his split from Genesis in 1976. It is also the first of the three PG SACD's that I bought - the other two are Passion and PG 3. This is my first James Taylor SACD. The Multi-channel listening expereince got off to a rocky start with "Your Smiling Face". The vocal was very much lost in the center channel. Comparing it to lp and redbook, it was the worst version I'd ever heard. Thankfully, from there, things just got better ... more |
